Dr. Alexander McKanna

Dr. McKanna received his BS in Biology, with minors in Chemical Instrumental Analysis and Spanish, from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. He earned his medical degree from Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, IL, graduating in 2015, and completed a three-year surgical residency at Franciscan Health/Midwestern University.

Dr. McKanna is board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery and rearfoot and ankle reconstruction, with particular expertise in advanced limb preservation procedures. He has a special interest in pediatric podiatry, focusing on lower extremity conditions in children, and specializes in diabetic wound care and limb salvage. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. McKanna serves as Director of Podiatric Residency Graduate Medical Education at St. Joseph Hospital, where he trains the next generation of podiatric surgeons. He has been in practice since 2018.

He holds professional memberships with the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the American Podiatric Medical Association. In January 2021, Dr. McKanna received the Above and Beyond Award from AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center GlenOaks for outstanding performance, service, and dedication.
