Ultrasound
Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound at Suburban Foot & Ankle provides real-time, radiation-free imaging of tendons, ligaments, nerves, and other soft tissues in the foot and ankle. Available in-office at our Elmhurst and Bloomingdale locations, ultrasound allows our podiatrists to visualize structures dynamically during movement.
About This Treatment
Diagnostic ultrasound provides real-time visualization of soft tissues without radiation. It's particularly useful for diagnosing tendon injuries, neuromas, cysts, and guiding injection procedures.
Benefits
- Completely radiation-free and safe for all patients
- Real-time imaging allows dynamic assessment during movement
- Ideal for diagnosing neuromas, tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis
- Enables ultrasound-guided injections for greater accuracy
- Performed in-office with immediate results
- Non-invasive and painless examination
What to Expect
A small handheld transducer is placed on the skin with a water-based gel. The podiatrist gently moves the probe over the area of concern to produce real-time images on a monitor. You may be asked to flex or move your foot to evaluate tendons and ligaments under stress. The examination typically takes 10–15 minutes.
When Is This Treatment Recommended?
Ultrasound is indicated for evaluating soft tissue injuries such as Achilles tendon tears, plantar fascia thickening, Morton's neuroma, ganglion cysts, and for guiding precise needle placement during injection therapies.
